About
Wayne Batchelder…
Wayne is a retired professor of interactive media and is now a full time ceramic artist He is active in the Empty Bowls project and works with other artists to create bowls for the event.
He began his interest in pottery in West Palm Beach, Florida studying glaze formulation with Rod Kendal in 1991 and continued taking classes at community art centers in Dallas and McKinney.
Wayne’s pottery is influenced by a deep spiritual passion to create and experience the wonders of nature. Creating with clay and the vast variety of earth’s minerals that make up the glazes and clay bodies provide him with calm – zen moments of relaxing into the processes, and feeling a part of each element. His attraction to unique found wood elements are combined with clay forms to create unique – one-of-a-kind pottery. The combination of clay and wood create forms that are functional – designed to enhance the beautiful grain of the wood, and provide useful purpose in the home.
Wayne’s glazes are mostly created in his studio from raw ceramic materials, and he is experimenting with mixing clay from local clay in our area. See more of Wayne's work here http://www.waynebatchelder.com
